In the beginning...

So I've never been a pencil thin girl. However I never considered myself all that fat or out of shape either. I'm 5' 4" and was about 183 lbs. a comfortable size 12. Pretty average. I have always eaten pretty healthy. A typical breakfast was frosted shredded mini wheats or homemade granola with homemade yogurt. Dinners were typically a chicken breast, maybe a pork chop, some steamed veggies, cottage cheese, and maybe some stove top stuffing or some home made bread.

Not really a big TV watcher either. Always have a hobby in the works. Like scrapbooking, card making, quilting, jewelry making, stained glass, etc. Yes; now I see those are pretty sedentary. But we do spend weekends typically in the yard, and fairly often walked trails, went for a bike ride, gardened, or something. Yeah - okay still not that much exercise. Hind sights 20/20 right?

So for YEARS I've had thyroid issues. It's a family tradition on my mom's side of the family. I have hashimotos. Which after December 15, 2011 I found out that it's not uncommon for people with hashimotos to end up with other autoimmune disorders like diabetes or lupus. WHAT THE CRAP! As if hashimotos isn't bad enough.

So after a good weekend of driving myself crazy, and a minor pity party when my man pulled out a pecan pie (I had a good cry when I saw the carbs on that one!).

But, that was prior to my diabetes "WELCOME TO THE CLUB" meeting. Where you actually get all the details of how to manage this new challenge, count your carbs, yada yada yada. After that I thought, well this isn't THAT big of a deal. I am kind of in control here. (It helps to tell myself that from time to time). So for me I had to grab this diagnosis by the proverbial "balls" and said "OKAY - let's do this thing!"

SO that's a very quick note about me and a brief glimpse into my beginning with this journey. It was a shock, and a surprise. Yeah - I'll get into all that another day and another post.

Hopefully I can help myself, and help others along the way by keeping a light hearted spin on this thing and by sharing tips and ideas that are working, or maybe not working for me. Please also feel free to share your successess or challenges. Join me for the ride.

Just keep moving!
